What a bloody palaver changing a Lino! And how on earth he did his back waving an effing flag is a mystery.

Back in the mid 1980s I was living in Leytonstone. Early in the season I went to see County with a friend of mine at Brisbane Road. As we left the ground I turned to my friend and said we're going out of the League. His reply was it was far too early to say that. I merely said that the reason for my despair was not because of the result but because you could not fault the effort of the team but frankly it was obvious we were nowhere near good enough to survive.
The result that autumn evening? Orient 4, Newport County 1.
My initial view, and I hope to God I'm wrong, is we are a fair few players light and this season is going to be a struggle. Judging by the lack of comment on both message boards, I think that many of you are of the same opinion.

I agree. County looked like a non league team that had come to a league club in the cup. All players struggled and a couple looked completely useless. The only encouraging feature was Clarke who looked who looked like he was on the same level has the LO team. Get into the loan market now and above all get in a couple of defenders.

Couldn’t agree more with the above observations. The defence? What defence? I don’t like singling players out but Carney, Jameson and Glennon to me were all dreadful. Carney is comfortable with the ball at his feet and distribution ok but that’s not the only duties of a keeper unfortunately.
As regards going forward we present absolutely no threat whatsoever. I think we can at last surely forget about Jephcott.
What really worries me is that the fringe players we watched are not adequate replacements when we get injuries even assuming the first choices are actually up to the job. The only player that showed flashes of quality was Whitmore until Clarke, Kamwa and the other subs were made.
This squad will get us relegated in my estimation unless it is strengthened. I pray I’m wrong about this but I feel resigned already. I hope Doncaster at home shocks me out of this depression but I have my doubts. We have discarded too many old heads for young possibles yet to prove themselves. L2 is a tough judge of experiment.

Or a humbling by Doncaster could be the best thing that could happen to us.
