Gillingham 'fans' at it again. I suppose there is some comfort in the outcome of last years abuse of Omar Bogle lead to the 'fan' being banned for life, so Gillingham are taking action against the racist element in their crowd.
It does beg the question though as to whether there are sanctions built into the EFL management of the leagues. How many incidents before a club is fined or deducted points? And why isn't there a round up from the EFL weekly/monthly announcing arrests/ejections for specified offences to shame the clubs involved into taking appropriate action?

A number of fans on their forum seem quite reluctant to accept that there was any racism involved, and think their club shouldn't be apologising until it is proven. Talk about burying their heads in the sand.

Absolutely. How dare Newport County not apologise for the Stevens incident.
Oh hang on.

On that occasion ( at Spytty Park ) I was present and can confirm that no racist chants were coming from the shed but rather it was a “ cheat, cheat “ chant aimed at the referee for some dubious decisions.

In addition to that I remember being at the infamous Swansea Cup tie. What I thought I heard was one thing but others who were there, and whom were undoubtedly right, have assured me what I actually heard was a chant of 'You Jack B@stard'.
We all jump to conclusions, on occasions we are all wrong.

Apparently the EFL are currently running a 'Together Against Racism' initiative (17th - 28th October 2024). Seems just the time for them to make a statement...
